Competitive Intelligence Services

Phase 3 Consulting LLC can help you stay informed about potential competitors to your portfolio companies. The projects detailed below are designed to keep you knowledgeable and prepared to manage your risks. They can be carried out for companies that are already in your portfolio, for prospects for your portfolio, or for the entire portfolio of your investments.

(Note: in the text below, when we refer to "your portfolio companies" we mean those companies already in your portfolio as well as prospective additions to it.)

Competitive Matrix

We help you create a product-, service-, or business-model specific matrix to compare your portfolio companies' offerings to those of their competitors. By creating this matrix and analyzing the competitive information your portfolio company possesses, we can design fact-gathering projects to fill in the gaps.

Competitive Analysis - Secondary Data

Data from previously published sources relating to your portfolio company's competition is collected and analyzed in combination with your existing information to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the competition.

Competitive Analysis - Primary Data

Building on information gathered through secondary research, Phase 3 conducts primary competitive research related to your portfolio company. Projects may involve interviews or written surveys. Examples of possible research projects include:

  • Comparative Ranking Surveys: Customers are asked to rank your performance against your competition on key satisfaction criteria.
  • Benefit Interviews: These are designed to uncover the value you provide to your customers and the criteria used in their decision-making.
  • Value-in-Use Studies: Look at how your product is used in service to determine the factors and savings that really matter to your customers, compared to your competitors’ products.
